NCEES is seeking registered professional land surveyors interested and available to be judges for the NCEES Best Land Surveying Practices Award in the 2019 Future City Regional Competition in North Texas. Potential volunteer judges are asked to be located lwithin 100 miles from the competition location to keep reimbursement expense down.

Texas (North) Regionals:

Competition date: Saturday, January 26, 2019 (judging times do vary, but it’s usually between 8am-4pm)
Competition Location: UT Arlington, Nedderman Hall.

The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience in which 40,000 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade from 1,350 schools imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity™ software, research and write solutions to an engineering problem, build tabletop scale models with recycled materials, and present before judges at regional competitions in January. NCEES has supported the special prize for Best Land Surveying Practices for the past couple of years. The award recognizes the design that employs the best land surveying practices, taking into consideration the high standards used by surveyors to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare.

The surveying special award judges do not judge the main competition and challenge. This year’s challenge—Powering Our Future— asks students to design a resilient power grid that can withstand and quickly recover from the impacts of a natural disaster. Find out more at futurecity.org
